Ready to Make an impact?
We are seeking a high-impact Strategic Sourcing Supply Chain Manager to join our team. This role is designed for self-starters with executive presence who can thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment. You’ll be accountable for driving sourcing initiatives end-to-end—from strategy development and business / finance alignment through to execution—while balancing cost, quality, risk, innovation and sustainability.
You will support management for a complex portfolio of services in support of the Supply Chain function within Sobeys and its partner business units. Supply Chain Categories will include (but are not limited to) 3rd party warehousing, inbound and outbound transportation (Ocean Freight, Rail/Intermodal, Over the Road, Air, Customs), Fuel, Equipment Purchases, etc.
Our team is focused on supporting the next-generation supply chain. That means blending traditional procurement category management with data-driven insights, digital tools, and AI-enabled sourcing. You’ll have the autonomy to make an impact, but also the responsibility to influence across departments and manage competing priorities.
Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
- Own sourcing projects end-to-end: Identify opportunities, build strategies, negotiate, and deliver measurable results. Manage the fundamentals of sourcing and supplier engagement activities including RFx, spend pattern analysis, contract analysis, bid evaluation, and supplier consolidation. Preparing and holding business reviews with stakeholders to review vendor performance, future opportunities, and/or challenges. Work closely with the Centre of Excellence (COE) analysts to incorporate supplier relationship management (SRM) frameworks, KPIs and scorecards.
- Leverage data and digital tools: Use analytics, sourcing platforms, and AI-driven insights to enable smarter, faster decision-making. Work within the current systems and tools available but also be first to champion new tools and innovation that delivers value to Strategic Sourcing and the Business. Ability to independently perform advanced analytics for Return on Investment (ROI), Total cost of ownership (TCO) and spend effectiveness.
- Engage Executive level stakeholders across the enterprise: Work with Finance, Operations, Legal and Business Units, influencing leaders and navigating challenges with resilience. Ensure clear and executive level communication of sourcing recommendations and strategy supported by objective analysis and data. Provide regular status updates on sourcing projects to leadership, ensuring visibility into progress, timelines, risks and key decision points.
- Develop supplier partnerships: Build strong supplier relationships that unlock value, drive innovation, and mitigate risk. Bring forward new vendors that help lower network costs and improve supply performance.
- Balance execution and strategy: Deliver quick wins while shaping long-term sourcing strategies that align with enterprise goals. Work independently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects with different life cycles while maintaining high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and stakeholder engagement.
- Champion continuous improvement: Bring forward new ideas, tools, and ways of working to elevate sourcing and supply chain practices within the business. Support, adopt and champion Sobeys’ new Strategic Sourcing Suite module for spend management, ensuring consistent usage across projects and driving data integrity.
- Elevate the Strategic Sourcing brand: Consistently demonstrating professionalism, preparedness, delivering high-quality work, and upholding the highest standards in stakeholder engagement and execution.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Build and maintain deep subject matter expertise and industry knowledge within the established portfolio set of products and services
What you have to offer:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field (SCMP/CPSM designation an asset).
- 8+ years in strategic sourcing experience in supply chain management. Background in CPG, food & beverage, or retail experience is a plus.
- Strong logistics and transportation sourcing experience and understanding of Canadian vendor landscape
- Strong track record of delivering cost savings, value, and supplier performance improvements.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects with different life cycles while maintaining high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrate executive presence and ability to influence at the executive level.
- Ability to synthesize data and insights into concise and impactful business cases, applying structured approaches (e.g., Pyramid Principle) to influence senior leadership decisions.
- Advanced negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis (Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
- Experience with digital sourcing tools (e.g., Coupa, Ariba, or similar).
- Familiarity with AI-driven sourcing approaches (e.g., market intelligence, automation, predictive analytics).
- Bilingual in English and French is a strong asset as the candidate will be expected to collaborate with peers in other provinces and provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada.
What the ideal candidate looks like:
- A doer and builder: You take ownership, make things happen, and don’t wait for direction.
- A self-starter with executive presence: Confident, credible, and capable of influencing across all levels of the organization.
- A data translator: Skilled at interpreting complex data and turning it into actionable sourcing insights.
- Digitally fluent: Comfortable with sourcing tools, analytics platforms, and already exploring AI’s role in procurement.
